## Description

Bucket Town is a historical project based in Hingham, Massachusetts, dedicated to preserving and sharing the story of the town’s woodenware, coopering, and toy-making industries. Its focus is the Reuben Hersey Toy and Box Shop, a remarkably intact workshop discovered in 2007 on Hersey Farm, which has been owned by the same family since Revolutionary War times. Once restored, the building revealed tools and products left undisturbed for generations. It is described as the last furnished cooper’s shop in Hingham and the only surviving preindustrial toymaker’s shop in America.

The discovery renewed interest in Hingham’s historic trades, in which more than 400 makers produced wooden goods sold across the country. Bucket Town presents this history through a book, Bucket Town: Woodenware and Wooden Toys of Hingham, 1635–1945, written by nationally recognized American art and antiques authority Derin Bray and published by the Hingham Historical Commission. The website also provides news and events, historical information, a gallery, and contact details for visitors interested in the shop and its legacy.
