## Description

Bunkerverein Chemnitz e.V. is a nonprofit association founded in 2017 to research, document and preserve the underground history of Chemnitz and the former Karl-Marx-Stadt district. Its work explores historical bunker facilities, urban development and planning, civil protection, and related economic conditions. The association conducts archival research, on-site investigations and interviews with eyewitnesses to gather information about these places and their past.

A key project is the preservation of an LP-09 shelter, which the association has leased. It intends to use the site as its headquarters and, in the future, make it accessible for special guided tours as a technical monument and learning and remembrance site focused on the Cold War. The association also advocates for the protection of historically significant underground structures, especially those threatened by demolition or major alteration, and may document endangered sites in collaboration with public authorities and specialists. Alongside its heritage work, it plans to establish and maintain bat wintering quarters in suitable underground locations. Membership, guided tours and contact opportunities are available through the association.
