Their 100% grass-fed Jersey cows produce buttery, protein-rich milk that is the key ingredient in their certified organic yogurt, kefir, and other creamery products. Founded by Jack and Anne Lazor in 1976, Butterworks Farm has grown into a thriving business that supports a team of 12-15 people.


They prioritize self-sufficiency and land stewardship, ensuring that their cows have optimal comfort, care, and nutrition. The cows graze on nutrient-dense pastures and hayfields, filled with abundant grasses and legumes, resulting in milk of outstanding quality. Butterworks Farm is known for their happy and healthy herd of Jersey cows.


Each cow has a name and a special spot in the barn, and they enjoy grazing on mineral-rich pastures and breathing in fresh mountain air. These contented cows produce 30-40 pounds of exceptional milk and cream daily, which is the foundation of Butterworks' delicious dairy products. The dedication to land stewardship extends beyond the cows to the hayfields and pastures.


With the philosophy of giving back more than they take, Butterworks Farm builds healthy soil by using slow-aged compost, planting specialized perennial seeds, and applying foliar feeds and trace minerals. The result is land high in organic matter, rich in minerals, and abundant in carbon. As Vermont's original organic dairy, Butterworks Farm has a rich history and legacy.


From their small homestead beginnings to their on-farm creamery, they have always prioritized the care of their closed herd of Jersey cows and implemented sustainable farming practices. Today, their focus is on a 100% grass-fed diet for their cows, producing a range of flavorful yogurt, buttermilk, and kefir.
