BYkids is a non-profit organization that empowers young people (ages 8-21) from around the world by pairing them with master filmmakers to create short documentaries. These documentaries are designed to educate Americans about globally relevant issues that often go unheard. With renowned filmmakers like Albert Maysles and Ric Burns as mentors, BYkids gives voice to youth from diverse cultures and encourages international understanding and engagement.

Each year, a Story Selection Committee, including UNICEF and industry professionals, selects five stories based on criteria such as courage, perseverance, and dignity. These stories are then assigned to a BYkids Film Mentor, who works closely with the young filmmaker for one month. The films are packaged for wide distribution, including film festivals, television broadcast, DVD distribution, school programs, and web downloads, with a target audience of at least two million viewers.

By using film as a tool for global understanding and a catalyst for action, BYkids changes the way Americans see the world and empowers children to have a voice. All proceeds from the films go towards funding the following year's program, ensuring the sustainability of this impactful initiative.
