## Description

The Bytown Railway Society is a dedicated, non-profit organization established in 1969, aimed at fostering an appreciation for Canadian railway history and related transportation fields. Operating as a volunteer-driven entity, the Society focuses on the preservation, restoration, and maintenance of historical railway artifacts. With a strong presence in Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec, they actively engage in running excursions and are involved in operating historic locomotives, including ex-CP steam and Shay locomotives.

The Society produces a range of publications, including their flagship magazine, Branchline, and the highly acclaimed Canadian Trackside Guide. Their extensive collection of railway equipment is housed at the Canada Science and Technology Museum in Ottawa, showcasing a variety of heritage items. In addition to educational initiatives, the Society invites individuals to join and contribute as volunteers or through its Dirty Hands Club, promoting hands-on involvement in railway heritage activities. Discover more about their programs, publications, and events on their official website.
