## Description

CABANA is a pioneering capacity-strengthening project aimed at enhancing bioinformatics in Latin America. Operated by a collaborative consortium of ten organizations, including nine from Latin America and one from the UK, CABANA seeks to create a sustainable framework for data-driven biology. The initiative focuses on addressing the training needs of diverse communities in biological and biomedical sciences across the region.

CABANA's core missions center on three significant challenges: combating communicable diseases such as Zika and malaria, promoting sustainable food production, and protecting biodiversity. By facilitating the use of bioinformatics, CABANA empowers Latin American institutions to become pivotal hubs within a broader pan-Latin American network. The project promotes international collaboration, improved access to bioinformatics tools, and enhanced data management practices.

Funded by the Global Challenges Research Fund, CABANA is a response to critical global issues with particular relevance to Latin America, fostering resilience in agriculture and supporting the unique biodiversity of the region. Through training, workshops, and eLearning resources, CABANA is dedicated to building a stronger research foundation in Latin America.
