## Description

Capacity Foundation is a not-for-profit venture studio focused on defending nature and the people who protect it. It builds “Moonshot Missions for Mother Nature,” combining artificial intelligence, satellite intelligence, data fusion, machine learning, Earth observation, and frontline expertise to make environmental protection more integrated, predictive, and scalable. The organization says it currently supports the protection of 36 million hectares of Indigenous land across the Amazon, with a stated path to 280 million, and works across nine Amazonian territories.

Its active work includes The Shield, a cross-border environmental defense system that monitors, detects, predicts, and seeks to prevent illegal gold mining, cattle expansion, soy-driven deforestation, and industrial logging. The system combines satellite intelligence with ground data and is developed in partnership with Indigenous defenders. Closing the Gap convenes Indigenous leaders, NGOs, nature-technology companies, scientists, philanthropic donors, family offices, and public authorities to address critical gaps and develop deployable prototypes. Another mission is researching AI applications to help governments and enforcement agencies address environmental crime.
