## Description

The Caribbean Heart Menders Association (CHMA) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 1994, working with local and multinational agencies to improve care for children with congenital and acquired heart diseases across the Caribbean and Central America. Through medical and surgical interventions, including heart surgery and other non-surgical care, the organization has helped more than 380 children, supporting their life expectancy and quality of life. CHMA has facilitated medical missions in Jamaica, the Dominican Republic, Panama, and Trinidad and Tobago, and has cared for children from those countries as well as Dominica, Guyana, and Haiti. Its work also includes building local clinical capacity: the association delivered critical care training to nurses at Bustamante Hospital for Children and supported three Jamaican nurse educators in training at Holtz Children’s Hospital at Jackson Memorial Medical Center in Miami. CHMA raises support through fundraisers and donations and conducts community outreach projects, bringing partners together to expand access to lifesaving pediatric heart care.
