## Description

The Carnegies represent the UK's longest-running and most cherished children’s book awards, celebrating excellence in writing and illustration for younger audiences. Established to honor exceptional literary contributions, the Carnegie Medal for Writing recognizes outstanding English-language books, while the Carnegie Medal for Illustration commends remarkable artistic works in children's literature. Uniquely judged by children's librarians, past laureates include literary legends such as C.S. Lewis and illustrious illustrators like Quentin Blake.

In addition to the awards, the Carnegie Shadowing Scheme actively promotes reading for pleasure among children and young adults. Through this initiative, thousands engage with shortlisted books in reading groups at schools and libraries, where they can access educational resources and participate in voting for their favorites, culminating in the Shadowers’ Choice Awards. Administered annually by CILIP and the Youth Libraries Group, the awards serve to inspire the next generation, emphasizing the transformative power of books and reading. Join us each year in celebrating the joy of literature and its artistic expression!
