## Description

CastQC is a pioneering project focused on developing cost-effective upscaled production HPDC technology and Al-matrix strengthening mechanism with the non-equilibrium quasicrystalline (QC) phase. This innovative approach aims to meet the high demand for aluminum alloys with superior properties while also addressing the growing pressure to decrease weight, costs, and environmental footprint, particularly in the electrification of vehicles. The demonstration has shown that the QC alloy boasts 30% higher mechanical properties than the commercial EN AC-46000 (DIN 226) alloy, requiring 30% less Al and generating 20% less CO2 emissions. With its lower weight, the QC alloy is set to reduce environmental impacts throughout the entire value chain. The ultimate goal of the CastQC project is to reach TRL 8 and introduce the novel QC alloy to substitute commercial Al-alloys, steels, and even some Ti and Mg alloys, contributing to the increased competitiveness of the EU automotive industry.
