## Description

Colchester Archaeological Trust is a Colchester-based organisation founded in 1965 to research and promote the archaeology of the town, Britain’s first Roman town. Across six decades, the Trust has carried out major excavations and research, helping to uncover and interpret Colchester’s Roman and later heritage. Its website shares news about discoveries, excavations, conservation projects and historic sites, alongside an online reports library and media archive.

The Trust provides commercial archaeological services and offers opportunities to work or volunteer with its team. It also supports learning through schools, groups and outreach programmes, and hosts a Young Archaeologists’ Club. For visitors, the Roman Circus Visitor Centre and Café introduces the history of Colchester’s Roman circus, with information to help plan a visit. The site also features exhibitions, resources about Colchester’s historic buildings, and details about the Friends group. Through research, public engagement and visitor experiences, Colchester Archaeological Trust connects the community and visitors with the archaeological record and history of Colchester.
