The Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC) is a regional organization established in 1964 by Cameroon, Niger, Nigeria, and Chad, with the Central African Republic joining in 1996 and Libya in 2008. It serves as a platform for member countries to collaborate on the management of Lake Chad and its shared water resources, as well as the preservation of ecosystems, regional integration, and peace and security in the Lake Chad Region. LCBC is a recognized basin organization, affiliated with both the African Network of Basin Organizations (ANBO) and the International Network of Basin Organizations (INBO).


Its vision is to maintain the sustainable levels of Lake Chad and other wetlands, ensuring the economic security of freshwater ecosystem resources and reducing poverty in the region. LCBC achieves its goals through information gathering and dissemination, research programs, regulation of navigation, and reinforcing regional cooperation.
