## Description

The Centre for Brain Research (CBR) is an autonomous, non-profit research organisation based at the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore, India. Established with philanthropic support from Dr. Kris Gopalakrishnan and Mrs. Sudha Gopalakrishnan, CBR works to advance understanding of normal and pathological brain aging and reduce the burden of neurodegenerative disorders. Its research combines neuroscience, genetics and clinical investigation, with a focus on translating discoveries into better knowledge of brain health.

CBR leads long-term studies of aging and dementia risk in rural and urban Indian populations through the CBR-SANSCOG and CBR-TLSA cohorts. Other initiatives include the Young and Late-onset Parkinson’s Disease study and GenomeIndia, which catalogues genetic variation across India’s population. The centre also conducts research on Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, memory and other brain-related topics, supported by research facilities, collaborations and project grants. In addition to publishing research and sharing findings, CBR offers a full-time PhD programme in basic and clinical neuroscience, opportunities for volunteers and participants, and avenues for research collaboration.
