About

Description

Cbus Libraries is a grassroots initiative in Central Ohio that seeks to champion libraries and foster a love of reading. They recently partnered with renowned poet Hanif Abdurraqib, musicians, and other local organizations to host the People's Back to School Party, a legendary celebration that took place at Simakovsky Law in Columbus. The event had a profound impact, with over 265 attendees enjoying powerful performances by acclaimed musicians and original poetry recitations by high school students.

Cbus Libraries and their partners generously gifted over 200 books, with many titles celebrating Black joy, and distributed 125 book bags filled with school supplies. Attendees were also treated to 100 gourmet meals by Willobeez SoulVeg and indulged in 250 delicious ice cream sundaes from Johnson's Real Ice Cream. The event showcased collaboration with various community partners, including All In for Ohio Kids, Black Queer & Intersectional Collective (BQIC), Community Refugee & Immigration Services (CRIS), Muslim Family Services of Ohio, and Us Together.

Family-friendly entertainment was provided by The People's Circus. Additionally, Cbus Libraries collaborated with esteemed literary partners, such as Beanbag Books, Book Loft of German Village, Cover to Cover Children's Books, Gramercy Books, Half Price Books, Prologue Bookshop, Two Dollar Radio, and World of Books Ltd. Through the People's Back to School Party, Cbus Libraries furthered the transformation of the People's Mural of Columbus site into a vibrant community hub
