## Description

Citizens Commission on Human Rights (CCHR) is an international mental health watchdog organization formed in 1969. It describes its mission as investigating and exposing human rights abuses in the mental health field, and protecting individuals from abusive practices and coercive methods. CCHR shares information through educational resources, news coverage and documentaries addressing psychiatric institutions, diagnoses, medication, electroconvulsive therapy, restraint and isolation. Its featured films and videos include Psychiatry: An Industry of Death, Prescription for Violence, Therapy or Torture? and The Marketing of Madness. The organization also offers a free information pack for legislators, public officials, health professionals, legal professionals, human rights organizations and support groups. Visitors can access publications, videos and updates, learn about ways to get involved, and find guidance on reporting alleged psychiatric abuses or adverse reactions to medication. CCHR provides membership and donation opportunities, a newsletter, and information about its international organization and local contacts. Its materials present the organization’s perspective on psychiatric practices and are intended to inform the public and support its human rights advocacy work.
