## Description

The Cobourg & District Historical Society is a community organization dedicated to promoting interest in the history of Cobourg, its surrounding district, and beyond. Its work encourages the preservation of the area’s historical, archaeological, and architectural heritage, while making local history accessible through educational resources and public events. The society offers a broad collection of histories, stories, biographies, and architectural features covering people, places, transportation, industries, buildings, and significant events. Topics include Cobourg Harbour, the Peterborough Railway, local industries, notable residents, historic homes, and heritage architecture. Visitors can also explore maps, timelines, documents, newsletters, historical reviews, postcards, meeting videos, and veteran interviews. The society organizes a programme of talks and meetings featuring speakers on regional and Canadian history; these events are open to members and guests. Its website provides information about upcoming programmes, news, and ways to get involved, including joining the society. Through research, storytelling, events, and shared resources, the organization helps residents and visitors discover the rich heritage of Cobourg and its wider community.
