## Description

Contournement Ferroviaire de l’Agglomération Lyonnaise – Nord (CFAL Nord) is a railway infrastructure project focused on improving rail capacity around Lyon. Its dedicated information website introduces the project, explains its objectives and stages, and provides updates, documentation and opportunities for the public to take part in consultations. The project responds to congestion on the Lyon rail network, where growth in high-speed and regional passenger services has left limited capacity for freight and constrained TER services during peak hours.

CFAL Nord aims to create an alternative route for freight trains, reducing the need for them to pass through the centre of Lyon’s railway network, particularly Lyon Part-Dieu station. It is intended to connect the French section of the Lyon–Turin rail link with existing lines toward Grenoble and Ambérieu-en-Bugey, enabling longer-distance freight routes. By supporting more effective rail freight and a shift from road to rail, the project also seeks to free capacity for passenger trains, especially regional TER services. The site offers project information, consultation resources and email updates.
