## Description

CFMATTERS is a European Union-funded research collaboration focused on cystic fibrosis (CF). Supported through the Seventh Framework Programme, the project was established to conduct a randomized, multicentre clinical trial investigating microbiome-derived antimicrobial treatments for people with CF. Its work brings together an international consortium of universities, hospitals, research organisations and specialist partners across Europe and the United States, including University College Cork, Queen’s University Belfast, the University of Washington and Papworth Hospital.

Rather than offering commercial products or healthcare services, CFMATTERS conducts and shares research. Its programme covers clinical trial management and delivery, data management, ethics and safety monitoring, microbial activities, human host defence, and the lung and gastrointestinal microbiomes. The project also provides information for patients and participating sites, and publishes news, project updates, meeting information, publications and first results. Its website describes the consortium, work plan, advisory boards and project activities. A 2017 update reported that more than 200 patients had been recruited to the study.
