Mark Best is an Australian chef, restaurateur, author and culinary adviser recognised for his innovative contribution to contemporary Australian cuisine. Born in South Australia, he began his career as an electrician before undertaking a kitchen apprenticeship in Sydney in 1990. Early experience with European techniques and Asian flavours helped shape his distinctive approach, later refined through work at renowned restaurants in France and the United Kingdom.

Best opened Peninsula Bistro in 1995 and established Marque in Sydney in 1999. Marque earned major industry recognition, including Restaurant of the Year honours and three consecutive appearances on the San Pellegrino World’s 50 Best Restaurants list. Beyond restaurant kitchens, Best has advised hotel groups on dining concepts and culinary programs, and has represented Australian produce and cuisine internationally.
