## Description

The General Paediatric Incubator is a UK-wide, National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR)-supported initiative focused on building research capacity in general and community child health. Led by Professor Katrina Cathie and Professor Lee Hudson, it brings together healthcare professionals, multidisciplinary teams, children and young people, parents, carers, and professional networks to strengthen research from newborn care through late adolescence. Its work includes mapping research gaps and barriers, identifying priorities with children and families, developing training and mentorship, and strengthening collaboration across the UK and Ireland. The Incubator also aims to broaden participation in research and embed equality, diversity and inclusion in its approach. Its five work packages cover network development, gap analysis, research prioritisation, capacity building, and patient and public involvement and engagement. Planned outputs include co-design frameworks and practical resources to support involvement, alongside improved routes for professionals and trainees to take part in research. By connecting existing expertise and networks, the initiative seeks to make research a more integrated part of everyday paediatric care and help improve child health outcomes.
