## Description

The Network of Chinese Human Rights Defenders (CHRD) is a coalition of Chinese and international human rights nongovernmental organizations. It works to promote human rights in China through peaceful efforts that support democratic and rule-of-law reforms and strengthen grassroots activism. CHRD documents and reports on the situation facing human rights defenders, advocates, and other people affected by restrictions and abuses. Its website provides news, alerts and statements, China human rights briefings, commentary, and research reports, including coverage of alleged torture, detention, labor rights, and violence against lawyers. The network also shares information about persecuted defenders and maintains data and profiles relating to their cases. Its work includes engagement with United Nations human rights mechanisms, such as treaty bodies, special procedures, the Universal Periodic Review, and the Human Rights Council. CHRD organizes focused campaigns on issues including COVID-19 and human rights, and publishes images and videos to support its advocacy. As a nonprofit, it invites donations to help empower human rights defenders in China and offers email subscriptions to its updates and reports.
