About

Description

Communities In Schools of New Mexico is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing crucial support to students, enabling them to thrive academically and in life. With a mission to surround students with a strong community network, they strive to empower students to not only stay in school but also achieve their potential. The organization's history dates back to 1997, when retired educators Bill and Georgia Carson responded to a call for assistance from a local elementary school principal.

Together with the United Church of Santa Fe, they established the Salazar Partnership, which aimed to provide resources and support to two high-poverty elementary schools in Santa Fe. In 2012, the Salazar Partnership joined forces with Communities In Schools, Inc., further expanding its reach and impact. Communities In Schools of New Mexico operates through 17 Site Coordinators who support approximately 5,500 students and families across 12 Title One (high-poverty) schools in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Their dedicated team, along with the involvement of 50 community volunteers, ensures that students receive vital assistance and guidance to overcome challenges and succeed. For over four decades, Communities In Schools has been instrumental in helping students excel in school, graduate, and pursue brighter futures. By fostering strong partnerships within the community and prioritizing student well-being, they create a supportive environment where students can thrive.
