About

Description

Citizens Committee for New York City has been dedicated to improving the quality of life in the city for almost 50 years. Born out of the city's financial crisis in the 1970s, the organization was initially established by U. S.

Senator Jacob Javits and Newsweek Editor-in-Chief Osborn Elliott. They called on New Yorkers to come together and volunteer their time to address the struggles faced by their neighborhoods. Since then, Citizens Committee has been a driving force in empowering residents to take charge and make a difference.

They have supported initiatives such as block associations, organic gardens, after-school programs, adult education classes, and theater workshops. Their focus for 2022 is to uplift communities most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly communities of color. With a firm commitment to local engagement, Citizens Committee for New York City is determined to bring the city back in 2023
