Clarapath is a leading brand in tissue sectioning technology, offering a fully automated microtomy system called SectionStar. Founded in 2014 as a spin-off of Dr. Partha Mitra's research on high-throughput neuroanatomy, Clarapath aims to facilitate whole-brain digital neuroanatomy research.

Initially, Dr. Mitra used the tape-transfer method to process tissue samples for analysis, but he saw the opportunity to develop a fully automated system using this method. SectionStar takes paraffin tissue blocks as inputs and produces glass slides with sliced tissue as outputs.

This innovative device is being developed in collaboration with Northwell Health and the Northwell Health Laboratory, with the goal of improving patient care, reducing costs, and enhancing the quality and consistency of tissue preparation. By automating the last manual process in histopathology, the SectionStar is set to revolutionize the field.
