Capital Markets Authority (CMA) is an independent regulatory body established in Beirut, Lebanon. Its main responsibility is to regulate, supervise, license, and monitor the activities of the Lebanese Capital Markets in accordance with the Capital Markets Law No. 161. CMA aims to promote and develop the Lebanese Capital Markets while protecting investors from fraudulent activities by issuing regulations aligned with international best practices. It conducts proper control and auditing of institutions dealing with financial instruments. The authority focuses on reducing systemic risk and developing the capital markets by promoting a transparent regulatory framework and comprehensive oversight of the financial system. It also emphasizes investor education to enhance public awareness and understanding of financial markets and associated risks. CMA ensures the protection of savings invested in Financial Instruments, encourages the capital markets in Lebanon, and coordinates between various sectors. It reduces systemic risk, provides a fair and transparent investment environment, and facilitates access to necessary information for investors. Moreover, it aims to raise investor awareness, protect investors, and increase the use of capital markets. The authority is governed by a Board consisting of seven members, with the Governor of Banque du Liban serving as the Chairman. The Board establishes regulations, sets codes of conduct, and licenses financial intermediation institutions. Overall, the Capital Markets Authority plays a vital role in establishing confidence in the Lebanese capital markets, promoting their integrity, and maintaining their attractiveness to investors, ultimately benefiting the national economy.
