## Description

Critical Metals for Critical Industries Cooperative Research Centre (CMCI CRC) is an Australian industry-led initiative focused on accelerating domestic critical metals refining and processing. Its vision is to establish a globally competitive, sustainable sovereign industry that strengthens Australia’s supply chains for advanced technologies and supports strategic exports. Bringing together government, industry and academia, the CRC aims to help Australia move beyond mining and capture more value from its mineral resources through responsible refining and production.

CMCI CRC’s work is organised into three research programs. Market and sector development will assess market, environmental, social and governance, and techno-economic factors to identify promising opportunities. Critical metal refining and production will develop and pilot next-generation technologies for refining and recovering key metals. Commercialisation and capability building will support the adoption of innovations and the development of workforce skills.

The initiative also aims to grow Australian refining capacity, encourage circular and sustainable practices, and develop global intellectual property. CMCI CRC invites organisations to become partners and collaborate on research, technology development and commercialisation.
