The ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI), established on February 3, 1947, under the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, is a leading institution in marine fisheries research based in Kochi, Kerala, India. Joining the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) family in 1967, CMFRI has played a pivotal role in advancing marine fisheries, transitioning India's fishery practices from artisanal methods to complex multi-species fisheries.

CMFRI specializes in various domains, including fishery resources assessment, economics, finfish and shellfish fisheries, mariculture, marine biotechnology, and marine biodiversity.
