Charlotte Mannya-Maxeke Institute (CMMI) is a family initiative dedicated to preserving, promoting, and celebrating the remarkable legacy of Mme Charlotte Mannya-Maxeke. Founded by three families connected to this inspiring icon, CMMI is a non-profit organization focused on uplifting and empowering African women. The institute's vision is to uplift and propel African women of all generations to their rightful and notable level, while its mission is to elevate, educate, and emancipate these women, all while upholding the spirit of Ubuntu. CMMI aims to produce proud, extraordinary, and miraculous African women, paying homage to Charlotte Mannya-Maxeke's rich history. Their motto is spearheading the development and growth of African women by supporting excellence. Charlotte Mannya-Maxeke was a pioneering South African woman who championed inclusivity, education, and evangelism. She achieved numerous notable firsts in her lifetime, including being the first black South African woman to earn a BSC degree and being the only woman to attend and contribute to the first African National Congress (ANC) conference. She also established a school and was the co-initiator and first president of the Bantu Women's League. CMMI offers various programs such as the annual Charlotte Mannya-Maxeke Week, Bring Her Up, Top 100 Girl Camp, Preserving the Legacy, and Intergenerational Dialogues during Women's Month. These initiatives aim to commemorate Mme Charlotte, engage the community, and promote her values and teachings. The institute also organizes the Charlotte Maxeke Memorial Lecture, delivered by other iconic and pioneering South African females.
