## Description

The Swedish Colonial Society, founded in 1909, is America's oldest Swedish historical organization and holds a unique relationship with the Swedish Royal Family and government. This society aims to preserve and promote the history, genealogy, and culture of the New Sweden Colony in America. Their extensive publications, research, and archives serve as a solid foundation for studying the colony and its colonists. The Society collects and preserves the largest collection of historical and genealogical materials related to the first Swedes and Finns in America. Membership is open to anyone interested in history, while those who can prove descent from a colonial Swede or Finn are designated as Forefather Members. The Society also prioritizes historic preservation, coordinates the return of significant artifacts to their origins, and collaborates with museums to develop exhibits and tours. With its longstanding heritage and connection to the Swedish Royal Family, the Swedish Colonial Society upholds a rich legacy of the New Sweden Colony in America.
