## Description

Common Ground Alliance (CGA) is a membership organization dedicated to preventing damage to underground utility infrastructure and protecting people who live and work near these essential assets. Serving stakeholders across the United States and Canada, CGA provides a forum for industry members, regulators, and other partners to share expertise and collaborate on damage prevention. Its nearly 4,000 members can participate in committees, digital communities, regional partnerships, events, and other engagement opportunities.

CGA develops and shares practical resources to support safer excavation, including its Best Practices Guide, public awareness toolkits, 811 marketing materials, and state-specific information on safe digging rules and contacts. Its Damage Information Reporting Tool (DIRT) collects damage and near-miss reports, which inform annual data summaries, dashboards, and research on underground infrastructure incidents. The alliance also publishes economic impact studies, technology reports, white papers, and other analyses to help explain the costs and consequences of utility damage. Through conferences, webinars, media resources, and educational initiatives, CGA helps stakeholders exchange knowledge and advance more effective damage prevention practices.
