## Description

The COMPare Trials Project is a research initiative focused on identifying and addressing outcome switching in clinical trials. Outcome switching occurs when results specified in a trial protocol or registry are omitted from the published report, or when additional outcomes are introduced without clear explanation. Between October 2015 and January 2016, the COMPare team systematically checked every trial published in the top five medical journals, comparing reports with their protocols or registry entries.

For trials with discrepancies, the team counted unreported pre-specified outcomes and newly added outcomes, then sent letters to the relevant journals highlighting the findings. COMPare also tracked whether journals published, rejected, or did not publish those letters. Its work aims to raise awareness, encourage accountability, and provide feedback to journals to help improve clinical trial reporting.

The project shares its methods, results, and data, alongside papers examining its findings and researchers’ responses. Its website also provides background information, a frequently asked questions section, a blog, and speaking dates.
