## Description

Verein für Computergenealogie e.V. (CompGen) is Germany’s largest genealogical association, bringing together more than 4,000 individual members and over 50 member societies. The nonprofit organization supports family-history research and helps people discover, document, preserve, and protect genealogical heritage. Its online resources are freely available to members and non-members alike, reflecting an open-access commitment to sharing knowledge with researchers and the wider public.

CompGen offers a broad range of tools and learning resources. GenWiki, its collaborative genealogical encyclopedia, contains around a quarter of a million pages, while its databases, research guides, surname distribution map, and digital library help users explore family histories. The association also publishes a blog featuring news, project reports, advice, and member contributions, and hosts forums, mailing lists, events, and social media channels where family researchers can exchange ideas.

For readers seeking more guidance, CompGen publishes the COMPUTERGENEALOGIE quarterly magazine and the FAMILIENFORSCHUNG reference guide in print and digital formats. Members receive both publications as part of their membership. CompGen welcomes beginners, experienced researchers, societies, and academic communities.
