## Description

The Congo Basin Landscapes Initiative is a UNEP-led, multi-country partnership working to preserve and sustainably manage the Congo Basin’s rainforests and peatlands. It brings governments, local communities, forest-dependent people, businesses, and other partners together to develop landscape approaches that support conservation while delivering meaningful benefits to those involved. The initiative addresses priorities including protecting intact forests, conserving biodiversity, creating wildlife corridors, combating wildlife trafficking, supporting community livelihoods, and establishing disease surveillance systems.

Its portfolio includes the GEF-funded Congo Forest Integrated Programme and the IKI-funded Congo Basin Peatlands Project. The forest programme encompasses initiatives running from 2021 to 2026 and from 2025 to 2032. The peatlands project supports evidence-based decision-making and good governance to safeguard the region’s vital biodiversity, carbon, and water stores, working with the governments of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Republic of Congo. Across eight countries, the initiative connects knowledge, partners, and action through regional programmes and national projects.
