## Description

Conroe Founders Day is a community organization that celebrates the history of Conroe, Texas, and honors its founding figure, Isaac Conroe. Its annual event takes place at Founder’s Plaza in downtown Conroe and commemorates the city’s heritage, including the story of Isaac Conroe, who built a house and sawmill and helped bring a railroad stop to the area. The historic Isaac Conroe House, located at 202 Avenue A, later served as a temporary Montgomery County Courthouse and U.S. Post Office; it now houses the City of Conroe’s transportation offices.

A central part of the celebration is the Isaac Conroe Citizen of the Year Award. The organization invites nominations for Conroe residents who have contributed their time, effort, or resources to improve the community and are in good moral standing. Previous honorees include Larry Foerster, Susie Pokorski, and Joe Haliti. Conroe Founders Day is supported by a board whose roles include history and genealogy, event coordination, city liaison work, publicity, grants, and scholarships. The event also features sponsors and an after-party.
