## Description

The Comissão Portuguesa do Atlântico (CPATL) is a Portuguese association founded in 1960 and restructured in 1975 to promote understanding of NATO and Portugal’s role in the Atlantic Alliance. Affiliated with the international, non-governmental Atlantic Treaty Association, it advocates peace, freedom, pluralist democracy, human rights, and stronger ties and cooperation among allied countries. The organization receives logistical support from Portugal’s ministries of Defence and Foreign Affairs.

CPATL shares information about NATO and transatlantic relations through publications, events, and educational activities. Its work includes producing the Portuguese edition of NATO News, distributing information about the Alliance, and organizing conferences and seminars for educators, students, and university communities.

Its youth wing, the Portuguese Atlantic Youth Association (YATA Portugal), focuses on security and defence in the Atlantic region and encourages public awareness of Portugal’s participation in NATO. YATA Portugal organizes conferences, debates, workshops, and simulations of the North Atlantic Council, including the Portuguese Atlantic Youth Seminar (PAYS).
