## Description

Craftpedia Asia is a multilingual, open-access portal documenting the traditional crafts and cultural heritage of Asia. It connects visitors with the stories, techniques, regions, materials, and artisans behind the continent’s diverse handmade traditions, from Japanese ceramics to textiles, ritual objects, woodworking, lacquerware, and metalworking. The project aims to preserve and share cultural knowledge, recognizing crafts as expressions of memory, tradition, identity, and spiritual meaning—not simply decorative or functional objects.

Craftpedia Asia organizes its content through dedicated country and regional portals, allowing for more focused exploration and multilingual presentation. Current country portals include Japan, with coverage of pottery, lacquerware, textile arts, metalworking, and other traditions, and China, featuring traditional Chinese crafts. The site offers craft descriptions, technique guides, historical and cultural context, and profiles of regions, materials, and artisans. Content is available in more than 50 languages, with additional languages planned.

Visitors can explore existing portals and contribute by writing or expanding articles, translating content, adding references, images, or audio, and connecting the project with local artisans and cultural organizations.
