## Description

The Centre for Research in Biodiversity, Ecology, Evolution and Conservation (CRBEC-Congo) is a research and training centre located in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. It brings together researchers from different disciplines and career stages to address gaps in knowledge about biodiversity in the country and the wider Congo Basin. CRBEC promotes research and the development of specialists, with work spanning taxonomy, DNA-based analysis, ecology, evolution and conservation.

The centre supports researchers through an appropriate framework for study and assistance with scholarship and research grant applications. Its projects use morphological, molecular and ecological data, gathered in the field or through experiments, to inform understanding of species and ecosystems and contribute to sustainable natural-resource management. CRBEC also shares research findings in accessible language, raises awareness of conservation issues, and engages with local biodiversity policy, including through policy briefs. Its activities include training fish farmers, exploring the domestication of wild species in controlled environments, supporting reforestation and protection of threatened species, and addressing environmental degradation.
