## Description

The Coalition for the Restoration of Santurce Ecosystems (CRES) is a nonprofit organization working with communities to restore and protect ecosystems in Santurce and across Puerto Rico. Since 2014, it has documented local habitats and species, monitored environmental changes, and coordinated restoration efforts with residents and partner organizations. Its work spans coral reefs, seagrass beds, lagoons, mangroves, dunes, wetlands, and coastal and urban forests.

CRES combines hands-on conservation with community participation and environmental education. Activities include coastal cleanups, native tree and plant propagation, habitat restoration, ecological monitoring, soil and compost analysis, and volunteer training. Through its free organic recycling program, the organization turns community food scraps into compost for its garden and nursery, helping grow native plants for coastal reforestation. It also supports the design of gardens for homes and schools.

CRES offers educational volunteer experiences, guided ecosystem walks, workshops, and nature-reconnection activities. Community members and visitors can contribute through volunteering or donations, supporting projects that strengthen biodiversity, reduce erosion and flooding risks, and encourage sustainable care for Puerto Rico’s natural environment.
