## Description

The Italian Red Cross – Avola Committee is a local humanitarian organisation serving Avola and nearby communities. For more than 80 years, it has worked to protect health and life, support social inclusion, prepare residents for emergencies, and provide assistance when crises occur. Its activities are carried out by a community of more than 90 active volunteers.

The committee offers equipped medical transport for appointments, treatments, dialysis, and hospital transfers, as well as a social taxi service for people with mobility difficulties travelling to hospitals and other healthcare facilities. It promotes and organises voluntary blood donation and provides first-aid and BLSD training for individuals and businesses. The committee also shares practical first-aid guidance and emergency-preparedness resources to help people respond to situations such as cardiac emergencies, choking, bleeding, earthquakes, and floods.

Residents can support its work through donations, including Italy’s 5×1000 tax contribution, or by becoming volunteers. The committee is based at Via Santa Lucia 86, Avola, and can be reached by phone or email for information and assistance.
