California Rural Legal Assistance, Inc. (CRLA) is a nonprofit law firm that has been dedicated to providing free civil legal services to low-income residents of rural counties in California since its establishment in 1966. Our mission is to fight for justice and individual rights alongside the most exploited communities in our society.

Our vision is to create a rural California where all individuals are treated with dignity, respect, and are guaranteed their fundamental rights. Led by a dedicated team, including our Executive Director Jessica M. Jewell and Chief Counsel Michael Meuter, we are committed to making a positive impact in the lives of those we serve.

In 2020 alone, we impacted over 54,000 low-income individuals living in rural California. We closed 6,303 cases for individuals, families, and community groups, and provided assistance to 1,788 disabled individuals and 1,285 seniors. At CRLA, we believe in the power of community generosity, which allows us to provide our services free of charge.
