The Cultural Learning Alliance (CLA) is dedicated to advocating for the right to art and culture for every child. With a focus on equality of access, the CLA strives to demonstrate the importance of cultural learning. Bringing together the education, youth, and cultural sectors, they work towards delivering arts and cultural learning to children. The CLA fulfills its mission through various means, including policy analysis and evidence gathering, dissemination of advocacy materials, lobbying and advocacy efforts, and building strategic relationships across arts, culture, education, and policy. Acting as a backbone organization for the arts and cultural education sector, they provide analysis, evidence, and arguments to assist Alliance members and their respective sectors. Their work is driven by the understanding that studying the arts fosters creativity, innovation, empathy, and resilience. However, access to arts and culture for children is declining, which is a social justice issue. Research shows that children without exposure to the arts face educational and economic disadvantages, while those who do participate in the arts are more resilient, healthier, and perform better academically. The Alliance is comprised of a diverse range of organizations and individuals from the cultural and education sectors, including teachers, schools, public bodies, philanthropists, and creative industry leaders. With over 3,000 organizational members, 6,000 individual members, and 12,000 Twitter followers, it is a thriving community. The CLA is funded by the Paul Hamlyn Foundation, Esmée Fairbairn Foundation, and the Clore Duffield Foundation.
