Close is a brand that aims to celebrate and showcase the art of close-up, macro, and micro photography. Founded by Tracy and Dan Calder in 2018, their passion for noticing the small things and exploring the world through a microscope led them to create Close. With more than 20 years of experience in the photo magazine industry, Tracy has a deep understanding of the craft and has even authored a book called Close-up & Macro Photography. Dan, on the other hand, has been a contributor to the field as well. Together, they are a husband and wife duo based in Winchester, UK. Through their brand, they launched the Close-up Photographer of the Year (CUPOTY) competition, providing a platform for photographers to showcase their talent in various categories such as animals, insects, plants, and more. Close believes in giving global exposure to these unique forms of photography, while also supporting and educating enthusiasts through workshops and resources.
