## Description

Cycling Southland is a brand with a rich history dating back to the late 1880s. Originally a part of the Otago region, Southland cyclists gained recognition in 1948 when they became a part of a new region called Otago-Southland. Track cycling in the region was held in various venues before the development of the Kew Park Cycling Bowl in 1954. This facility boasted a sealed surface with raised bankings and was considered one of the fastest tracks in the Southern Hemisphere. Over the years, the cycling track underwent further development, including the construction of a grandstand and hall. In 1996, Cycling Southland was formed through the amalgamation of three remaining clubs in the region, with the aim of modernizing and streamlining the sport. Today, Cycling Southland continues to lead the way in New Zealand cycling, with a dedicated team of administrators and volunteers working towards the needs of present-day and future cyclists.
