About
Description
Carolina Youth Development Center (CYDC) has been a vital part of Charleston's heritage since its founding in 1790. As a direct descendant of the Charleston Orphan House, America's first publicly-funded orphanage, CYDC has a rich historical and cultural significance in the community. CYDC is on a mission to cultivate thriving children and families, with a vision of providing every child with a loving and stable family and a nurturing community that empowers them to lead successful lives.
They offer a wide range of programs and services that reach over 900 local children, youth, and families annually. Their programs include caring for young people who have experienced physical and sexual abuse, neglect, and abandonment, as well as providing resources and support to families at risk of having their children removed from their homes. CYDC is accredited by the Council on Accreditation and is a funded partner of the Trident United Way.
They are also proud members of various esteemed organizations, including the Child Welfare League of America and the Alliance for Strong Families and Communities. As a 501(c)(3) organization, Carolina Youth Development Center relies on the support and generosity of donors. You can make a difference by donating or getting involved as a volunteer.
