## Description

Czhilispiel is an annual, volunteer-driven festival celebrating Flatonia, Texas, and the town’s Czech and German heritage. Founded in 1973 for Flatonia’s centennial anniversary, its name combines “chili” with Czech and German influences: the distinctive “z” nods to Czech heritage, while “spiel” means “play” in German. The festival is held on the fourth full weekend of October and brings the community together for a lively, multi-day celebration.

A chili cook-off is at the heart of Czhilispiel, alongside live music and a concert series, a biergarten, carnival, parade, arts and crafts market, and a 5K/10K. The event also features food and commercial vendors, merchandise, and opportunities for sponsors, participants, and volunteers. Its 2026 program is scheduled for October 23–25 in Flatonia, with performers across the weekend. Czhilispiel welcomes visitors to experience the festival and explore the area’s small-town charm. Organizers invite businesses and individuals to take part in the celebration through sponsorships, vending, event participation, or volunteering.
