## Description

The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI) is a philanthropic organization founded in 2015 by Priscilla Chan and Mark Zuckerberg to help address major societal challenges. Its work focuses on science, education, and the needs of local communities, with operational support provided across these areas.

In science, CZI supports a new era of AI-powered biology through the Biohub, bringing together scientists, engineers, and AI experts to help researchers cure or prevent disease. In education, it aims to bring learning science into the tools teachers and students use every day, helping technology reflect classroom realities and strengthen teaching and learning.

CZI also supports change through grants and investments in ventures. Since its founding, it has awarded approximately $7.22 billion in grants and invested nearly $300 million in ventures aligned with its values. Its local giving work partners with nonprofits and supports community-led solutions and emerging needs. CZI operates through several entities, including an LLC, a private foundation, a donor-advised fund, and an advocacy organization.
