## Description

Greater Iowa City Area Student Scholarships, formerly known as Dollars for Scholars, is a community scholarship organization focused on expanding access to post-secondary education for high school graduates in the greater Iowa City area. Its mission is to enhance educational opportunities through recognition, community support, and scholarships. The organization notes that local high schools graduate approximately 1,000 students each year, while fewer than 100 receive scholarship awards, and estimates that at least 250 additional students need support.

To address this gap, the chapter encourages community members to donate and help build an endowment fund, increasing the number and value of scholarships available. It also seeks to provide merit-based, multi-year awards that can help students reduce accumulated college debt. The website provides information about scholarship applications, donations, frequently asked questions, news, and race information for the Dam to Downtown 10K, whose 2021 race was listed as on hold. The chapter is based in Coralville, Iowa, and can be contacted by phone or email.
