## Description

Dark Texas Skies is an astronomy experience based at the Marathon Motel & RV Park in Marathon, Texas, serving as a gateway to the Greater Big Bend International Dark Sky Reserve. Its star parties invite visitors of all experience levels to explore the night sky in one of the darkest areas of the lower 48 states. Small groups, with a maximum capacity of 16 adults, allow guests time at the equipment and opportunities to ask questions in a quiet outdoor setting.

Participants can observe celestial objects through two large observatory-grade reflector telescopes, using high-quality eyepieces, as well as Oberwerk 100XL-SD and 127XL-SD binocular telescopes. The experience may also include information about International Space Station flyovers, and the site provides resources on moon phases, weather, sky conditions, maps and nighttime etiquette. Reservations are highly recommended, and events are scheduled around moonlight to preserve viewing quality. Admission is $10 for adults, while children under 18 attend free.
