## Description

David W. Manly is an author and Civil War enthusiast whose work explores the enduring debate over the military leadership of Robert E. Lee and Ulysses S. Grant. A retired consumer product executive, Manly developed a strong personal interest in the Civil War after learning that members of both sides of his family had served in the conflict. His featured book, Lee or Grant: Who Was the Superior General of the Civil War?, examines the question of which commander was superior through comparisons of their battles. Each battle is assessed on a five-point scale covering strategy, tactics, and casualties, producing an objective score intended to offer readers a fresh perspective on a long-running historical discussion. The book is available in paperback, and visitors to Manly’s website can learn more about it and read reviews. He also welcomes inquiries about author talks and events, and offers a newsletter for news and special offers.
