## Description

The Distance Education Accrediting Commission (DEAC) is a private, nonprofit organization founded in 1926 to support quality in distance education. As an institutional accreditor, it reviews distance education activities across institutions, from secondary schools to providers of professional doctoral degrees. Its accreditation work spans all U.S. states and international locations.

DEAC serves students, educators, administrators, institutions, and the wider public with information and practical resources. Its services include guidance for schools seeking accreditation, institutional searches, accreditation standards and applications, staff training, and support for students exploring distance education, federal student aid, credit transfer, or complaint procedures. DEAC also coordinates volunteer peer review and publishes public notices and accreditation actions.

Beyond accreditation, the organization offers webinars, workshops, an online training center, and resources for assessing distance education effectiveness. It also supports discussion of emerging online learning practices, including curriculum review and artificial intelligence in education. In 2026, DEAC marks its centennial with events and an archive celebrating a century of distance education.
